This weekend I was reminded how great it is to give rather than receive. That saying “It is better to give than receive” is as old as the Bible itself, but when a person “gets it” is up to the way your life is going at the particular moment. I am sure I am like most people when I was younger and could not wait for birthday gifts, Christmas presents, or even the occasional money card from my grandparents. But, now in days, I don’t really “need” anything, and I get so much more joy giving to others. Giving to others or random acts of kindness produce a wicked chemical in the brain that, for me, is more addicting that anything else I have ever done. It doesn’t need to be money either, sometimes, just giving my wife a break from the kids, or stopping to listen to someone’s problems, may just be the thing they need to feel better. So next time when luck comes your way and you have a little extra cash, or some extra time, invest it in someone else, and maybe, just maybe you’ll get addicted too.
