Working through stuff.

I am not sure if I am dealing with a bout of time dilation, but it seems like the world is changing a lot right now, and fast. I am a consumer of all things digital: TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter (now “X”), even Threads, and it seems like there is a definite change happening in generational norms and how people as a whole deal with things. The Gen Xs are saying everyone new is a softy and can’t cope with anything and the Gen Alphas are just trying to let everyone know that the things they are going through are not the same or even not like anything that anyone has gone through before. Now I would be a liar if I said I never once thought or said aloud about “these new kids are soft” but the more I work with them and the more I talk to them, I am getting a better understanding. Now I am not here to say who’s the tougher or better generation, as far as I am concerned, as long as you are alive and trying to contribute to society, good on you. I watched this video on how each generation goes through some sort of change or how history tends to repeat itself in terms of generations, an interesting watch, I will post it below. Now, the older I get the more empathetic I am towards just people in general, we are all definitely going through something, and we tend only to focus on our problems, it is part of survival. And again, the older I get, the more I worry about other’s problems, at this point I am just worried about staying upright. Currently I work with a lot of young kids, some half my age, and I have learned a lot, the biggest thing being that at this very point in 2023, going through something should not be done alone. I think decades ago, when you could “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” and make a name for yourself and your family, being tough just came with the image. But now, with everything that has happened in the past couple years: pandemics, inflation, cost of living; I think we are going through a shift of life as we know it. Remember, nothing that we are going through was real in 1980: not the internet, AI, supercomputers in your pocket, deep fakes, electric cars, solar roofs, and more! So old people screaming that kids don’t play outside are right, but old people didn’t have the same things as kids these days do, it is like comparing apples to steak, it is not the same. Also with the constant changing of life, we don’t even know what is good for us or not, I remember many moons ago, eggs were bad for you, and now they aren’t. The world we are in is a constant state of change, and not always for the better, but everything is always changing and people want to hang on to and treat as their life is the only one that did something right, but I think we are all missing the point: we are just trying to survive. I have been around a lot of mental health issues, and unfortunate suicides, and think at this point we are just trying to survive all these constantly changing things and deal with things that no one has yet before dealt with. All this text to say, if you think you are going through something for the first time, you are not, someone somewhere probably has gone through the same thing, so talk to people, be kind, and just having a general interest in someone else’s life may help you deal with your’s in a way you never thought you would. Be kind. Do good. Don’t be evil. Peace friends.

One response to “Working through stuff.”

  1. People talk more about more things now than they did when I was young. And yet some things are still not talked about. The answers are out there, if you want to look for them.
